What Is NMEA?
NMEA stands for National Marine Electronics Association, which is an American organization that develops standards for marine electronics. Here are some of the most common NMEA Standards:
NMEA 0183 - An older marine electronics standard that uses a serial connection to transmit data between devices. It defines a specific set of data sentences or messages that are transmitted at a particular baud rate.
NMEA 2000 - A newer marine electronics standard that uses a CAN (Controller Area Network) bus to enable communication between devices. It supports a much broader range of data types and allows for bi-directional communication between devices.
NMEA 0400 - A standard for interfacing marine electronics systems with on-board computers, used for data acquisition and analysis.
NMEA 2000 MI - A standard for managing metadata and other information associated with devices on a NMEA 2000 network.
NMEA 0183 HS - A high-speed version of the NMEA 0183 standard, designed to support faster data transfer rates.
NMEA 0183 HDLC - A modified version of the NMEA 0183 standard that uses a High-Level Data Link Control protocol for more efficient data transmission.
NMEA 0183 v4.x - An updated version of the NMEA 0183 standard that adds new data sentence formats and supports higher data transfer rates.
NMEA 0183 Gateway - A standard for interfacing different marine electronics systems with each other, used for data sharing and integration.
